In some cases a design has been made for an M12x1 type Proximity Switch, but only an m8x1 meets the other specifications of the design. In these cases an adapter is needed to convert m12x1 to m8x1. With this threaded adapter you can convert a part designed for M12x1 to M8x1. Both types of screw thread are what you see most often on inductive sensors.
